A Growing Tradition

1972 The first La Salle County Fair is held, organized by the Young Homemakers of Texas, Cotulla Chapter, to showcase projects created by local youth and adults.

1974 As the fair grows, leadership expands to the entire community. Local organizations come together to form the La Salle County Fair Association.

1981 To build excitement following the county's centennial, the fair introduces the first Wild Hog Cook-Off. What began as a day of family fun becomes a signature event.

Expansion, Tradition, and New Highlights

1984 — A lease with the American Legion allows construction of the Show Barn and the first top-rate livestock show and sale.

1985 — The Fair Board adds a security fence, ticketing, restrooms, a kitchen, and meeting room. The Cook-Off expands with Showmanship and Artistic Presentation.

Mid-1980s — The Fair Association and Chamber of Commerce partner closely; a shared parade/cook-off theme begins.
